The Rotterdam Architecture Month is the largest architecture festival in the Netherlands. For the 2025 edition, the quay of Schiemond was chosen as the festival hub: a place where city and water meet, and where temporary interventions made the future of this area tangible.
Inspired by the vibrant atmosphere of Coney Island, we designed a sunny festival identity for Rotterdam Architecture Month 2025 — an identity that radiates color, playfulness, and energy, and that came to life through the illustrations of Maaike Canne.
With Summer in Schiemond, the quay was transformed from a hard boundary into a vibrant meeting place. Interventions such as the Maaskijker by Observatorium and the Kadepodium by Studio Architectuur MAKEN provided the stage for a summer filled with experiment, debate, and imagination. The once-hidden quay became Rotterdam’s beating festival heart: a place where city and water, people and stories, came together in a celebration of architecture.
More than 70 partners organized over 150 activities at 50 locations throughout the city. The festival hub in Schiemond showed what can happen when a quay is no longer a boundary, but a connector between city and water, past and future, residents and visitors.
